THE CREW

Matilda Butler

Witer/Director

Having been raised in Cornwall within a community of classic wooden boat builders, I want to tell a story from the world that I know, but with a dystopian twist. What with the immediate climate emergency and the ever-growing destruction of our small communities from property development, my aim is to tell the story of a girl and her family on the edge of survival and the resilience that she shows in the face of destruction.  My intention is to tell in-depth and multifaceted stories with their own distinct atmospheres, where I can bring what I believe is a truly unique blend of conceptual activism and surreal narrative to a wider audience.

Tom Eastwood

Writer/Script Supervisor

Tom Eastwood was born and raised in Torquay, and wrote his first script at 7 years old. The interest in screenwriting developed into a creative skillset while at Falmouth University, specialising in screenwriting for both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, where he wrote shorts, television pilots, features, radio dramas and advertisements.
Between his BA and MA, Tom wrote a short for NBCUniversal, adapted an award-winning poem into a film and wrote and directed a 60 second film that was screened in 11 festivals around the world and winning two, one of which recognised by the British Council Film Directory. The short went on to air on UK Television and Amazon Prime.
While at University, Tom developed a reputation for assisting student directors, adapting ideas into engaging, producible scripts. This extracurricular work saw him write 8 scripts for different 3rd year directors, and it was the final script where he first met and worked with Matilda, writing Blue Cocoon together. Delighted with the script and the writing dynamic, the two pledged to work together again.

Kitty Lower

Production Designer

Kitty studied at Falmouth University, specialising in Production Design. She's always been keen to explore different areas of art. Kitty is excited to continue building upon her artistic skills. She is aware of the need for experience and exposure in this industry before leaving university and therefore spent much of the summer months before commencing her final year actively seeking out a number of different work experience placements within the art department. These include being the Art Department trainee for the BBC, Netflix, and an independent film company, as well as working as the Graphics Assistant on a BFI funded horror. She has thoroughly enjoyed these past placements and the connections made, whilst learning an immense amount which she hopes to continue to utilise, whilst also building upon these skills and expanding her knowledge. She has already worked with Matilda on their previous film, Blue Cocoon, which was a great experience, they both share the same visually distinct style and she is looking forward to bringing another one of her visions to life through the production design, especially one with such an empowering message.

Being a Cornish local and seeing the effects of the climate crisis first-hand in the form of polluted beaches and the destruction and gentrification of small local communities, I am passionate about getting this narrative out there. Coming from an art and design background, and having just graduated from my Film degree at Falmouth specialising in Production Design, I am thrilled to be a part of the talented Voyager crew. Being passionate about home-grown local talent and projects, a few of my recent credits include Art Department Assistant for upcoming Cornish feature Long Way Back (2021), assisting Rogue theatre for their 2020 summer show Wonder Walks and being a 2020 finalist in the Cornwall-based film festival, Rough Cut. I am excited to bring Matilda’s vision to life, and be a part of a cause that is very close to my heart.

I have a real love for the creation of emotion in film and hope to mould the footage into a striking and real story, immersing the audience in the world of our protagonist. In today’s climate it is especially important for this story to be told in an emotional and understanding way. I am thrilled to be a part of such a talented crew and eager to get stuck into this project.
